San Marino 2018: Jacopo Tintoretto
The image of the coin designed by Luciana de Simoni shows a part of Tintoretto’s painting “Visitazione” (The Visitation of the Virgin). It originated in the “Scuola Grande di San Rocco”, in Venice in 1588 and shows the pregnant Maria, who set off to visit her relative Elisabeth to share the joy with her. On the upper left edge of the picture you can see the issuing state “SAN MARINO” as well as the embossing mark of the Roman mint “R”. Below the motif are the years “1518” and “2018” as well as the name of the great painter “TINTORETTO”. On the outer coin ring the twelve stars of the European flag are shown.
