The international women's day was celebrated for the first time in Denmark, Germany, Austria and Hungaria on 19 March 1911. In 2011, it is celebrated for the 100th time. On the coin, 2 women are shown who were important for the Belgian Women's association: Marie Popelin and Isala van Diest
